Outlook 98 - Exchange Configuration

Corporate/Workgroup Installation is required for Exchange. To determine the installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" for Corporate Workgroup installation, or "Internet E-mail" for Internet E-mail installation. If the installation type is Internet Mail, change to Corporate or Workgroup. Note: The MS Office CD should be available when changing installation type or adding Outlook services.

Note: When you switch from the Internet Mail Only to the Corporate Workgroup installation of Outlook, the information that was contained in your old Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) account is not transferred to your new installation. See Q183208-OL98: Switch from IMO to CW Does Not Transfer Account for how to remedy the problem. It is important to also note that you should only switch to another installation type once. Switching back and forth can cause certain user options to be lost.

To change to Corporate or Workgroup from Internet Mail Installation:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Add New Components, and then click Install From CD or Install From Web, depending on how you originally installed Outlook.
  5. Click Yes to allow Active Setup to detect installed components.
  6. Scroll down to Mail Components and click to select Corporate or Workgroup E-Mail service.
  7. Click Next to continue and finish the installation.

  1. Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel and click the Mail and Fax (or Mail) icon.

  2. On the Services tab, click Show Profiles. Click Add.

  3. On the first screen of the Inbox Setup Wizard, make sure Exchange Server is the only information service selected in the list, and then click Next.

  4. Profile Name: Name the profile so it can be easily identified. Click Next.

  5. Microsoft Exchange Server: Server IP address or name. For the Mailbox: type your username. Click Next.

  6. Select Yes for laptops or No for desktops. Click Next

  7. Click Finish

Check or Change Settings for Existing Profile

  1. Open Outlook 2000. On the menu bar, click Tools and select Services.

  2. Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Properties. If Microsoft Exchange Server is not listed, click Add and select Microsoft Exchange Server from "Available information services". If you do not see it listed in the information services window, the customer will need the Office CD to install this information service.

  3. On the General Tab, check the Microsoft Exchange Server. This will either be an IP address or the Server Name. Run a check on the username.

  4. Advanced tab

  5. Dial-Up Networking Tab

  6. Remote Mail Tab
